Abject Transitional Objects

Toy Chest Expectations

Bodies show trauma: how we love and hate, connect and sever, absorb and reject. The act of working through the somebody you know now and today is an act of loving, although it vividly paints pictures of the tendons of aching memory and of our own faces we would rather forget.
“Transitional objects” are those plush toys we hold dear in our youth that we are supposed to grow (transition) out of, trading out the dependence on softness and self-soothing comfort for rationality, work and emotional constipation.
It’s the way our dreams, our fantasies and expectations are placed onto dolls and figurines - plush fur and plastic that never ages but wears and dulls over time. How queer.
